It’s common for pests to hide deep within hard-to-reach spaces that may not be visible, making it challenging for pest management professionals (PMPs) to make applications that last. Dry flowable bait can be a long-lasting, convenient solution to help keep properties free from harmful pests and keep PMPs serving other customers instead of making costly retreatments.
A little goes a long way
As ant season approaches, dry flowable bait can be a great solution for complementing spray and gel bait applications. Advion® MicroFlow insect bait from Syngenta is a leading treatment for tough infestations of ants, cockroaches, crickets, pantry pests and more. When applied with an Exacticide power duster, Advion MicroFlow can reach deep into voids to coat the ants. These ants will be groomed when they return to the nest, multiplying the impact.
Given its flexible label and packaging, there are many ways to apply Advion MicroFlow, including anywhere a traditional dust formulation is used. PMPs can make applications as appropriate for their accounts, including baiting on a large scale. For application convenience, Advion MicroFlow can be applied with an Exacticide, as well as most hand-held bulb dusters. It comes in an 8-ounce jar that can thread directly onto an Exacticide and includes measuring scoops that are sized to the opening of popular bulb and bellows dusters.
"Firstly, it works,” said Wally Melendez, owner at A&R Pest Solutions in Vancouver, Washington. “Going into an account with a duster instead of a compressed sprayer just feels better for me and my customers. The areas the [dry flowable bait] gets into is amazing. The application allows for so much more control in areas liquids and gel won’t reach."
Additionally, Advion MicroFlow is part of the 2023 PestPartners 365 Program, which offers yearlong savings on all Syngenta products. Generate at least $200 in base rebates from any combination of Syngenta products by April 30, 2023 to experience savings that last all year long.

Indoor applications
Dry flowable bait can enhance indoor integrated pest management (IPM) programs and is a strong addition to protocols using liquid residuals, gel baits and glue board traps. It can replace most traditional dust applications indoors and enhances pest mortality as a non-repellent bait. Target areas within cleanout or maintenance service visits should include:
- Cracks, crevices and voids
- Motor housings of appliances
- Compressor areas of refrigerators and freezers
- Wall voids near plumbing penetrations
- Outlets, switch boxes and conduits
- Sink and drain surrounds
- Kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, including the false bottom behind the toe
- kick and voids between cabinet boxes, walls or appliances (which may require drilling to make small access holes)
Outdoor applications
Outdoor dry flowable bait applications can benefit perimeter programs containing residual liquids and granular baits/insecticides. As with indoor applications, the primary targets are cracks, crevices and voids. Any structure opening accessible from the outside is a candidate for an application. Prime areas to consider include:
- Openings around door and window casings
- Plumbing and electrical penetrations through exterior walls
- Foundation settling cracks in concrete and block construction
Additionally, spot treatments can be made directly to ant trails, which may be more effective than liquid residuals for getting the active ingredient back to the nest.
